The sixth week of the Cal Ripken Sr. Collegiate Baseball League featured several outstanding individual performances as teams began entering the final stretch of the regular season.
D.C. Grays’ third baseman Hartley Rahman (Catawba College) powered his team’s offense with a full week of clutch hits and home runs to earn Week 6 Hitter of the Week honors.
Olney Cropdusters’ left-hander Austin Weiss (Maryland) delivered two scoreless appearances, including a dominant showing against the Silver Spring-Takoma Thunderbolts to capture Pitcher of the Week Honors.
Rahman Commands Grays Offense With Three-Homer Week
Hartley Rahman continued his breakout summer by delivering one of the league’s most impressive offensive weeks, leading the D.C. Grays lineup with power and production.
The Catawba College infielder hit .385 (5-for-13) across four games, collecting 14 total bases and recording a 1.077 slugging percentage. Rahman drove in five runs, scored six times, drew six walks, and launched three booming home runs, establishing himself as the CRSCBL’s most dangerous hitter during Week 6.
Rahman’s biggest performance came on July 11 against the Olney Cropdusters, when he went 2-for-4 with two home runs, three RBIs, and two runs scored.
The Grays’ third baseman wasted no time making an impact, crushing a solo home run in his first at bat to give D.C. an early lead. Rahman delivered again in the second inning, hammering a two-run blast to extend the Grays’ advantage.
The power display was part of a larger stretch of consistent production for Rahman.
On July 6 against the Southern Maryland Senators, Rahman went 2-for-5 with an RBI and scored twice. His defining moment came late in the contest, when he notched a single in the seventh frame before coming around to score during a four-run rally.
Rahman turned in another impressive performance on July 12 against the Alexandria Aces. He reached base five times on five walks, continuing to create opportunities for the Grays’ offense.
Weiss Dominates on the Mound for Cropdusters
Austin Weiss delivered a pair of shutdown appearances in Week 6 for the Olney Cropdusters, anchoring one of the league’s strongest pitching staffs.
The Maryland left-hander finished the week with a 1-0 record, a 0.00 ERA, and six strikeouts across five scoreless innings.
Opposing hitters went 0-for-15 against Weiss, who allowed just three walks while keeping hitters off balance throughout his outings.
Weiss opened the week with a dominant three-inning relief outing on July 6 against the Silver Spring-Takoma Thunderbolts. Taking over in the fourth inning, Weiss immediately overwhelmed the Thunderbolts lineup, retiring all nine batters he faced. The Rockville native struck out four hitters and refused to allow a single baserunner, helping preserve Olney’s 11-3 victory.
The southpaw returned to the mound on July 12 against the Bethesda Big Train and once again delivered in a high-pressure situation.
Entering the fifth inning with the Cropdusters trailing, Weiss tossed two scoreless frames against the CRSCBL’s hottest team. He struck out two batters and escaped a pair of baserunners in the sixth inning without surrendering a run.
Weiss provided a major boost on the mound as the Cropdusters continued their push toward postseason competition.
