Head Coach: Scott Middleton

2024 Record: 16-20 (2nd in South Division, lost in LCS Finals)

First Game: Tuesday, June 3 at Braves

Last season, the Southern Maryland Senators surprised many as they made it all the way to the LCS finals in just their second season. They defeated the Olney Cropdusters and regular season champion Alexandria Aces along the way before ultimately losing to the Big Train.

This year, head coach Scott Middleton’s main goal is to find consistency after a year of ups and downs and to eventually make their way back to the championship series.

Multiple players from last year’s team will make their return to Regency Furniture Stadium, among them being UConn junior outfielder Carter Groen, who was selected to the CRSCBL All-League first team in 2024. This spring, Groen recorded a .313 average in 16 at bats for the huskies.

Middle Tennessee State outfielder Nathan Brewer also makes his return to the Senators after a successful spring for the Blue Raiders. In 97 at bats this spring, the former CRSCBL All-League second teamer had a batting average of .278 in Conference USA play.

Pitcher Mark Loubier (Florida Atlantic) and outfielder Logan Tribble (Wofford) also return this summer.

“They’re gonna be big parts of the team,” Middleton said of the returning players. “They have experience, and they’ll bring great leadership.”

Alongside the returners are a plethora of new faces for the Senators that Middleton cannot wait to see on the field. One of those players is Adam Troch, a sophomore at Duke. In limited action, Troch recorded a two-run triple against Cornell, the first hit of his collegiate career. Troch is the only new outfielder on the roster.

Infielder Nick Flores joins the Senators after a great freshman season at VCU. In 45 games, Flores had a .306 average with eight home runs in 170 at bats. Sophomore Calvin Cook (Middle Tennessee State), freshman Jack Euart (UConn), sophomore Steven Kraus (Wofford) and sophomore Danny Surowiec (Boston College) round up the Senators infield.

Catcher Chet Bowling finished his junior season at Winthrop with an average of .303 in 33 at bats. Bowling’s best game was his performance against Queens University of Charlotte, where he went 4-for-5 with five RBIs and a home run. Sophomores Lucas Grantham (Wofford) and Jax Nichols (Motlow State CC) join Bowling behind the plate.

Joining the pitching staff are sophomores Vincent Luther and Aiden Milburn from Binghamton. In high school, Luther posted a 0.74 ERA in 2024 in a season that included him throwing a perfect game. He began the 2025 collegiate season with three scoreless innings in two relief appearances. Milburn had short stint at VCU before returning to Binghamton in his home state of New York this season. In 21 innings pitched, Milburn recorded 17 strikeouts.

MJ Phillips (Towson) is a player to look out for. Phillips recorded time both at first base and on the mound in his sophomore season. He is listed primarily as a pitcher on the Senators' roster. Jace Cunnane also joins the Senators after a spring pitching for Towson. In his junior season, Cunnane pitched 26.1 innings, striking out 13.

Middleton wants his team to exceed the heights reached last season: making the championship series and this time bringing the trophy to Southern Maryland.

The Senators begin their season on the road versus the Metro SoCo Braves on June 3rd at South County High School. Their first home game is the following night at Regency Furniture Stadium against the Gaithersburg Giants.
