Expansion DC Grays Unveil Uniforms
PRESS RELEASE – Thursday, May 3, 2012 -The DC Grays today unveiled their uniform and cap design for the inaugural 2012 season. The uniforms were designed specifically for the Grays by Under Armour and are based on the uniform style of the old Homestead Grays of the Negro League. The cap was designed by Kettle Corn Studios, the firm that also designed the team logo. The home and road jerseys, as well as the cap, are pictured below.
The DC Grays are the newest team in the Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League, and will begin play in June at the newly-renovated baseball facility at Gallaudet University in Washington, DC. The team is named in honor of the Homestead Grays, champions of the Negro National League and three-time winner of the Negro League World Series. The Grays played the majority of their home games in Washington for many years in the 1930’s and 1940’s, and included Hall of Famers Josh Gibson, Buck Leonard and Cool Papa Bell.
The DC Grays 2012 uniforms were designed to have a retro look and are styled after the uniforms of the 1939 Homestead Grays (see below).
“We are thrilled with the look of our uniforms, and we excited to work with an industry leader like Under Armour” said Michael Barbera, president of the Grays. “These uniforms will help us tip our caps to the great baseball history of Washington.”
